How Addiction Affects a Person’s Life
Addiction is a chronic behavioral health condition, and like other chronic conditions, it can have a major impact on a person’s life. Firstly, it can have a negative impact on their health.
Take alcohol as an example. Long-term alcohol addiction often leads to irreversible liver disease, and people who develop these health conditions will need regular medical treatment. This can seriously impact a person’s quality of life.
Many people who struggle with addiction often lose control over their drug and alcohol consumption, and they will prioritize it over parts of their lives, including their families, hobbies, and careers.
Because of this, many people with a chemical dependency will become isolated, and some will go through financial hardships. Some can develop depression or anxiety as a result.
Some will lose so much control that even suffering adverse consequences as a result of their substance abuse will not be enough to convince them to stop.
